Yesterday the cost of the two aircraft carriers we don't need was £3.9 billion pounds.
Today the cost of two aircraft carriers that will be used the way the American president wants is £20 billion pounds.
Even stranger than the incredible rate of inflation there, is that I think the Mail is more likely to be right about the price than the Guardian.

Pro You're right on there, Walrus...bloody scary isn't it, and I can't see them letting go the reins of power either unless America has a brain storm and votes somebody in who can control them...don't you wince when you hear the actual figures bandied about...I mean it's not millions you're talking about but billions!!! It's reached insane levels of expenditure on what??? Damned weapons of war...for heaven's sake, when will the human race grow up and get their priorities right...and none of those militaristic goons could be in power unless parents were prepared to let their sons and daughters join the army, navy and airforce to go off to fight their wars for them...if recruitment dried up completely...how would they be able to fight any more wars...mind you, every darned country would have to do it together and that's the problem...we still don't act as a single body, which in reality we are...still tribal...deep deep sighs...

Pro I'm old enough to have heard about war from people who were in one only a few years before they told me about it.
We could fix every problem there is on this planet (apart from religious loonies wanting to kill their enemies - nobody can cure those nutters) with technology, and live happily for long enough to call it forever, if only the greedy bastards at the top would let go and live like normal people. But they won't, because they are stupid.

Pro Not sure about stupid, just in love with the damned power they believe they possess or want more of...have no idea how to cure the current spate of religious fanatics racing around spouting death and glory on all sides...except to hope that one day reason overcomes superstition, but, if today is anything to go by, that's a very, very long way off indeed...after all when a piece of land can be returned to a people who lost it two thousand years ago on the grounds God gave it to them, we're sunk as far as reason is concerned...it took a nosedive then from which we've never recovered...

If only we could just learn to live with each other, no matter what, just get along with each other, learn about each others way of life.
