Shadow Home Secretary quits in disgust!

Listen to the speech, and congratulate David Davis on taking such a principled stand against the erosion of British freedoms that our power mad government is forcing on us.

Here is the video of David Davis's speech outside the House, as the Speaker wouldn't let him speak inside.

Those of you who know me may be shocked to see me endorsing anything a Conservative says, but then again, you already know how sickened I am by what used to be a proper party for the people of Britain, but is now just Nulabour, the party that makes Stalin seem soft and cuddly.

I can't stand "Call me Dave" the hoody-hugger, but David Davis is making an awful lot of sense.

I am so pleased to see an MP actually earning their pay by quitting.

Not often I think of a Tory as a decent bloke, but these are strange times, and we have a particularly nasty regime in power at present. I think it is a great stance David Davis has taken and I have emailed him to say so.

  Good for you, wish I had thought of emailing him. I see the Nooolabour ponces think they will defuse this by not opposing him. If I win on the lottery this weekend, I will be putting myself forward as the "Used to be Labour but that was when they were Socialists" Party, and saying Vote Davis!

Thrown a spanner into David Cameron's works, hasn't he...LOL...the Liberals aren't going to stand against him in the by-election...straight fight between Conservatives and Labour...so against this 42 days business...mind you, it's got to get through the House of Lords yet, and I heard yesterday that it's going to get a really rough ride, as to almost a man/woman they're opposed to it...still a fight to get it through it seems...I've also heard that even if they reject it, their decision can be ignored and it will be put through regardless...so much for the House of Lords acting as regulators of Parliamentary decisions...

  The threat of the Parliament Act to override the Lords is one factor why Davis is going to stand in a by-election. Its not just about 42 days from his point of view anyway, though this seems to be the straw breaking the camel's back - but about the nature of the Nu Labour regime and its approach to civil liberties and traditional British freedoms. His resignation speech could have been written by most Libertarians.

    Yet again, and how many times more, we have to rely on the undemocratic House of Lords to protect us from the insanity of power mad fascists pretending to be socialists. Good luck to Davis, he'll need it, given the levels of crap almost every commentator so far has churned out against him. He's the same age as me, and I sometimes wish I had the courage to try to shift this country in a sensible direction, instead of hiding in cyberspace...

I'm glad too that a politician - I don't really care which party or what the motivation is - has resigned over this issue.

It's long overdue that our politicians stood up to be counted for what this country, if we believe the rhetoric that emanates from both Downing Street and Parliament, is supposed to stand for, and is happy to go to war to protect (again, if we take the rhetoric at face value.... which of course we don't.)

It's funny to watch other politicians try to write it off. That's what happens when the game is threatened. Powerful people don't like anyone else making moves that force them to respond, so they dismiss, ridicule, character assassinate, and so on. Hot air, the lot of it.

Ironic that as soon as someone takes civil liberties seriously, they get ridiculed, as if they're some kind of wayward radical who needs to be dispossessed by all 'right-thinking people'.

On Question Time now: "We don't need the stunt of a vain man to have these matters debated". Well, then why haven't we had a national constitutional debate about CCTV, ID database & cards, getting rid of trial by jury bit by bit, and generally taking a wrecking ball to our constitution?

Bring on the debate, I say, I'm confident that civil liberties will outlast these faddish careerists who curry favour wtih their party-powerful more than they curry favour with us citizens who have to live under their successively worsening regimes.

  Isn't it funny how the rest of them are squeaking from under their stones about one that has some integrity, and remembers that we fought two wars or so, to be free?
  
  It's not a stunt, I saw his speech, and he meant it. I loathe most Tories, but I'd vote for this one...

When I mentioned how much I respected Mrs Thatcher and liked - dare I say it - Lord Archer, my then boyfriend (fifteen years ago) threw a plate at me; I ducked and it hit the fireplace behind me, smashing into a thousand pieces. I made a mental note to dump the hypocritical prat: money-orientated, individual-success pursuing, classist and racist up-and-coming young executive who purported to be 'Labour'!
I am so 'Blue' that I could be mistaken for a Smurf. Well done Mr Davis! You stand at the end of a scale from the other end of which dangle, by their greasy filthy grabby hands, the Conways of this country.
