My wife and son helped me on Saturday, so the final ton of plum slate went on quite quickly, compared with the two tons I did on my own. Although the job is now finished, we could do with some heavy rain to wash the dust from the crushing operation off the slate, to reveal its proper colour.
This has now inspired us to start making sketches for what to do next with the back garden...

Pro The birds? Those sods ate two thirds of the Morello cherries while they were green, and I suspect they know why we have no quinces at all this year. The only thing they leave well alone is the feeder full of expensive wild bird feeding seeds.

Pro Well, it's not difficult, but I do have some good aches from it. So do my assistants, even though they did MUCH less work than modest me.
