Oh, I nearly forgot. I'm supposed to start by saying "I'm back", in case anybody at all noticed my absence. It seems unlikely. I have been in Paris for a few days, having travelled by Eurostar. Eurostar is one of the most comfortable and stress-free methods of moving from place to place that I have ever travelled on. My thanks to my wife for a lovely short break from our normal existence... She's awfully good to me...

Anyway, here's a rather fine thing I liked in the Louvre. It's just one of the pillars Darius of the Persian Empire had in his audience room. There were a hundred of them, apparently, just to impress any visitors. Quite an audience room! Alexander the (not quite as) Great (as some say he was) attacked a small bit of the Persian empire, at one of its edges, announced he had conquered the world, and died without ever getting near Darius or the room this came from...

I would rant about the tedium of ploughing through all the idiotic spam on here, but there's hardly any real people on to read it.
