Dur. It all goes to show that what we tend to believe (in subjects of which we know little) is probably just as suspect. I am always spotting mistakes, or grossly misleading oversimplifications for the lowest common denominator, in IT and science-related subjects, not to mention statistics and probability etc. Since journos started writing their own stuff and all the subs got sacked, they only check for potential libel I imagine.

It's one of those strange things, that people with a reasonable knowledge of science somehow hardly ever seem to get into journalist jobs. George Monbiot is a notable exception, obviously.

This is why there are so many absurd stories around, like the idea that the large hadron collider (which has to be typed with care) might create a black hole that would suck the whole world in. Although I often wonder if this has already happened...

I would have believed the Telegraph too! Thank goodness I know better now. I'm going straight to my dads house tonight from work and I will casually pick up the telegraph and thumb my way to the cloud page. It is then I will give him my immense knowledge on clouds... he is gonna think I'm a whizz. (I'll mention your name later...) ;o)

I must admit I haven't sold on there for a couple of years due to massive problems changing bank details to a euro account when we moved. Shame cos it used to be quite a good forum for selling and buying x

I think you can set (in Settings, General, Post Properties) the Default Comment Status to "Moderated - Only Visitors", which should mean that comments from non-members are presented to you for approval before they appear, if I have understood it correctly.
