It all goes to show that what we tend to believe (in subjects of which we know little) is probably just as suspect. I am always spotting mistakes, or grossly misleading oversimplifications for the lowest common denominator, in IT and science-related subjects, not to mention statistics and probability etc. Since journos started writing their own stuff and all the subs got sacked, they only check for potential libel I This is why there are so many absurd stories around, like the idea that the large hadron collider (which has to be typed with care) might create a black hole that would suck the whole world in.
